Show GOV ATKINSONS DIET r A I Governor Atkinson of Georgia is in an unenviable position An old woman I in that state has ben sentenced to be I hanged and her crime really merits I such punishment Her case has been to the supreme court of the United States but i availed her nothing The woman in question paid her colored col-ored servant ten dollars to murder her husband He was making but a poor job of it so she assisted him to finish his murderous tasl She was tried convicted and sentenced to be hanged I There is not a mitigating circumstance in the case but what shall the governor gov-ernor do I he does his strict duty he will let the law take its course But there Is a universal sentiment against hanging women there is no foundation for it in logic or law but it exists and is very strong I Governor Atkinson lets the law take its course he will unquestionably un-questionably be severely censured and i I if he does not there will be many to i blame him and to carp at him What I he should do he himself must decide and i is not an easy matter to decide He must satisfy his own doubts after considering all the circumstances in the i case then act and let people say what they will His position in this case is I not an enviable one |
