Show I TH SENATE Little Business Beyond Presentation of Message Washington Dec GThe attendance upon the session of the senate today both on the floor and in the galleries was notably large despite the well understood un-derstood fact that little business beyond be-yond the presentation of the presidents message and the proceedings incident thereto would be transacted Among the senators who received flowers were Mr Cannon Utah a bunch of handsome roses and Mr Shoup Idaho basket of fruits and flowers Prior to the convening of the senate the members passed a half hour in exchanging ex-changing greetings Mr Hanna of Ohio who has been ill for a week was given a cordial reception by his Republican Re-publican colleagues Mr Wolcott of Colorado one of the members of the monetary commission was also given a warm reception Dr Godfrey Hunter of Kentucky the recently appointed minister to Guatemala was an interested inter-ested spectator to the proceedings and sat behind his friend Dr Deboe Charles Page Bryan the new United States minister to China was a notable figure in the reserved gallery and in the diplomatic gallery were several members of the Chinese legation and other members of the diplomatic corps When the senate convened after the recess Hon H D S Money the new senator from Mississippi entered the chamber but the oath of office was not administered to him during the session ses-sion The reception and the reading of the presidents message was the only feature fea-ture of the day |
