Show FIRE AT EH Beet Shed Destroyed Entailing a Loss of 1000 Lehi Jan 17 Early this morning fire destroyed about 300 feet of shed No 4 of the Utah Sugar company In which were stored all the mother or seed beets It is supposed that the laze originated from some fires that lad been started to protect the beets from freezing These fires were placed I i In sand boxes but as fire had been I communicated to the floor from one I I of them it had been decided to extinguish fn fs I I ingulsh all of them Nightwatchman Woodhouse discovered the blaze about I 430 and endeavored to smother I I I with dry sand but the floor beneath foor I i him gave way and he had a narrow j i escape from the flames The officers of the company were then aroused and a I general alarm given from the fire bell i There was a general turning out by I 1 the citizens and by hard work about 200 feet of the shed was saved The fire communicated to about four tons I of sulphur which helped the conflagra ton along Manager Cutler thinks 1000 will cover the loss and that perhaps 90 per cent of the seed beets will be saved I is the Intention to tear down the rest of the shed and to erect a new one It was the first shed built and was becoming somewhat decayed PROFESSOR BEESLEY INJURED Last evening as Professor Beesley was on his way to attend evening ser Ices he slipped and fell on some ice sustaining some painful bruises He will lose the use of his arm for sometime some-time |
