Show DAVIS COUNTY CONTEST Proposition to Consolidate School Districts Meets Opposition Farmington Jan 1iThe county commlnssioners heard arguments today for and against the petition of John H Coles ahd 71 others asking that the 13th and 14th school districts of Davis county be consolidated J H Coles James Warren W H Beazer Henry Williams and W H Miller were heard in favor of the petition A strong remonstrance re-monstrance was made by D K Eg bert Peter Christensen and David Galley Gal-ley on behalf of residents of the 13th district It was shown that while the property valuation of the 13th was I 181000 as against 72000 in the 14th I the bulk of the voting population Is in the latter district and hence amalgamation amalga-mation would result in the weaker district I dis-trict financially dictating to the I stronger In matters of taxation and also in the choice of sites for school I buildings County Superintendent I Porter spoke in favor of consolidation I and after an Informal conference i among the commissioners the matter I went over until next Monday when a decision will be rendered by the board This afternoon another important petition pe-tition was presented asking that Clear field and Syracuse precincts be united The territory involved in this petition Is practically the same as that embraced em-braced within the school districts mentioned I men-tioned above and the contest was based upon about the same facts This petition also went over for one week NOTES A marriage license was issued today to Hyrum B Parkin aged 22 of South Bountiful and Mlllesant Parrish aged 19 of West Bountiful The county commissioners today ordered or-dered the county treasurer to pay to the 13th school district the special taxes collected from the portion of section five which was recently detached from the 15th district and united with the 13th |
