Twenty fourth UntIed States infantry the colored col-ored regiment to be stationed henceforth hence-forth ait Fort Douglas arrived yestcrday afternoon The remaining companies get in about midnight and before today is gone the regiment will be in full occupancy of its new station The companies that arrived in the afternoon were companies D E and G and were in command of Colonel J F Kent who will be commandant of the regiment and post The train bringing bring-Ing the troops arrived shortly ate 2 oclock over the Union Pacific and it was the work of but a few minutes for the columns to form and the march to the fort to begin Curiosity t see what the new troops looked like prompted crowds of people to line both sides of South Temple to see them pass and a crowd of considerable consid-erable proportions assembled at the depot I the curiosity seekers expected ex-pected to see anything less imposing than the Sixteenth In the column of marching troopers they were very much mistaken The new comers showed show-ed themselves as well disciplined as any o Uncle Sams regulars and made a line appearance apparnce With this portion of the regiment came the regiment band which headed the column and a the soldiers took up the march from the Union Pacific depot i struck up a stirring marcih to the tune of which the men marched with admirable percision They were In heavy marching order accoutered exactly a though going into action and with muskets at right shoulder arms and marching with a tread that sounded like one foot fall the scene was certainly calculated to stir the pat die temple block there I was an occasional side glance of wonderment won-derment but aside from those which were few the men marched steadily on like automatons keeping their gaze ahead of them as though there was nothing at all strange in the scene surrounding them The appearance of the troops arousEd the admiration of people fond of the military and they were watched until Out of sight on the road and commissary Company D is commanded by Captain Cap-tain W H W James with First Lieutenant Lieu-tenant W Black and Second Lieutenant Lieuten-ant A Laws The latter is also signal officer Captain A C Markley commands Company E with H C Keene jr and H B Nelson as his first and second lieutenants Company F is commanded by Captain Cap-tain C J Crane post treasurer with First Lieutenant C E Tayman and Second Lieutenant J N Augustin jr Lieutenant Tayman has been in command com-mand of the Indian scouts at Bayard since July 4 1896 Company G has Captain Brereton in command and First Lieutenant A A Cabaniss and Second Lieutenant J C Jenks with the company the latter being engineer officer Skeleton company I has Captain J L Bullis brevet major First Lieutenant Lieu-tenant A C Ducat jr and Second Lieutenant H C Price Skeleton company K has Captain J W Morgan brevet major First Lieutenant Lieu-tenant J B Batchelor jr and Second Lieutenant W P Tackson At Fort Grant Ariz was stationed company B commanded by Captain H Wygant with Lieutenants B W Leavell and G H McMasters At Fort Huachuca Ariz were stationed sta-tioned companies A with Captain J M Thompson First Lieutenant A M Palmer and
