Show I A TANGLE IN OHIO Legal Proceedings Threatened That Hay Cnnsp Serious Trouble COLUMBUS Ohio Oct 22Chairman W W Durbin and Secretary W A I Taylor of the Democratic state committee I com-mittee notified S A Taylor the state i I supervisor of elections tonight that they proposed to enjoin the printing of I i the Australian ballot as he has certi fled It to the county boards In every county in the state and that the probable i prob-able result of this would be that the I ballots could not be printed in time I after the courts had passed on the i matter and the whole election both i I state and national in Ohio would be prevented I The trouble grows out of the refusal of the state supervisor to recall the ballot I bal-lot form and take 00 the name of W F Barr the sole Populist candidate for I elector who resigned from the ticket 1 today The supervisor holds that the matter has passed beyond his control and that in many of the count s the ballots have been printed He ahn I I dth he lot g ruled that the ballot could not be recalled re-called to substitute a name for that of W K Miller a cousin of Major McKinley who is dying from paralysis He holds that the substitution must be made by the use of pasters There is no provision for removing a name even by paster where no name is to be substituted sub-stituted Barr refused to withdraw from the ticket having been nominated I before the fusion agreement was I reached until his resgn ton was demanded de-manded today by the state committees I of tips both Democratic and Populist par |
