| Show I f FREDERICK J KIESEL I Of jitetien of the firm of Fred J Kiesel CM r cue of the mst successful business bUSI-ness mm n of the west and 1 is through indomitable energy that he has Ills own < r I F J iBJ5EII his present postiott in lfe and i eitmaUC maD relY a i twtreIy elmade r t IC551 was born In LudwIgburg J lr1 esel a of wurtmbg Germany o gOm 14 lived there until he WW tcarMS 1i lve te 1t p < > 1 Ji 1 I years of age when in January 1857 he started for America to make his home i He first settled in Memphis Tenn where I he engaged In commercial business going rom there In 1830 to St Louis Mo There I h e was employed in the wholesale dry goods house of Hurd Holmes Voorliees remaining there until the spring of 1803 One of the customers of the house being henry TP Lawrence of Salt Lake city Mr Klesel heard from him much concerning con-cerning this country and being desirous ot trying his fortune here he came across the plains Jn the spring of 1S6D with one of Lawrences merchant teams Once in Salt Lake cltv he entered the employ of Able Gilbert and In the fall of the same year was sent by Gilbert c Sons to manage a store at Soda Springs Ida He remained in the employ of this firm most of the time for several year conducting stores at MantI Wells vliie Ogden and other places in the territory Itory and in Idaho In iSffiJ Gilbert m Sons failed and Mr Klesel bought their Ogden store which he conducted for some time then sold out He then went to Europe where he married tln 31 estimable lady of his native town He returned to this country in 3S73 and engaged in busIness at Corlnnc where he remained II until 1879 when he founded the whole aje grocery house of F J Kiesel < ii Co cf Ogden In 1 SO he sold out aRAln and located In business loeted businesf In Toledo 0 here he was also successful But the west claimed him and he returned to Ojrden In 1S8L resuming hH old business which has grown and prospered wonderfully since then Mr TCIocel Is also Interested In mercantile houses in Pocatello Ida Ontario Or and other places in the I northwest besides owning the California I winery at Sacramento Cal the l > product of which is handled by his house in Ogden He is also interested largely in tIe cattle business in Idaho fruit raising in Oregon and Utah the salt business in 1itah and in the botllno of mineral water Idanha from the Soda Springs Idaho His company Is also engaged in the liquefaction of the carbonic acid gas Which te collected at the Soda Springs He Is also president of the firm of B K Block Co of Salt Lake city Mr Clesel has always been a Democrat of inn old school but nbove party is interested I inter-ested I the grand development of Utah |
