Show WORKERS FOR GHRST ChrIst n Endeavor Forces Hold a Preliminary Rally t BIG CONVENTION TODAY + SOME FAMOUS WORKERS ARE I ATTENDANCE C E Clark Founder of the Order Arrives at ProvoSalt Lake Meeting Meet-ing Addressed By Rev O W Stewart of Illinois Delegates From Ogden Attend t r A meeting preliminary to the regular session of the State Christian Endeavor society was held last night at the First Presbyterian church There was a large attendance of young people to hear Rev O AV Stewart expresident of the Illinois society and his charming charm-Ing wife A large delegation from Ogden Og-den and the north en route to the Provo meeting came In in time to attend at-tend the session President C E Brainerd of Ogden introduced Itev AVilliam H Ba by who opened the meeting with prayer Mr Stewart was then presented He talked interestingly of the Advantages of a Convention explaining and illustrating illus-trating with many stories how one in attendance at the meetings can get most out of them He bespoke the sympathy and prayers of the young people for Dr Clark the father of the society who is to be heard in Provo today In urg ing the attention of the young people to all the papers presented Mr Stewart assured his hearers that if they attended at-tended in a studious frame of mind hey would find something good and helpful in the poorest speech or sermon ser-mon I myself have gathered a new thought from a country boy whom I I never would have suspected c oulc teach me anything It frequent happens that the thing which we regard re-gard as least good on the programme will prove to be just what we are in need of Again said the speaker if we are to gain the most good from these meetings we must not attend in a crit cal frame of mind What though ago a-go thought is not expressed In just the kind of language we like Mr Stewart then briefly outlined the purposes of conventions He placed the spiritual help gained first and then spoke very highly of the sociability feature personally have been looking look-ing forward with great pleasure t this occasion because of the new people I expected to meet Then we all ought to be thankful for the spiritual unliftlng that comes from these meetings Even the preachers preach-ers enjoy this AVe need make no apology for being I Christian Endeavorers concluded the speaker We should think God that we are a part of this movement which Is such a help to faithful living But let us beware of getting tangled up in the machinery of the work lest in so doing we lose the benefits that come to us through Identification with the cause Mrs R J Caskey and rrs Andre sIt s-It the church choir sang 1 duet Glorj to Thee My God This Night and then Mrs Stewart was introduced Mrs Stewarts Talk I congratulate the young people on eing Identified with this society I like the Christian Endeavor organiza ton because of the part it has taken In the evangelization of the world because be-cause of its missionary work I like i too because it believes in selfcon ecration There are duties that are hard and prosaic and there is work to do that is never known of outside of ones sociity But these things have all helped to make the world better I like the society for yet another reason declared lrS Stewart It appeals to the heroic in men and women wo-men I frequently takes more courage to declare oneself in favor of a right eous life and AS an opponent of every evil than to enter a battle I requires re-quires strength to stand with the minority ority but we must b strong in bat ling for the right Life is no idle dream as Carlyle sys concluded Mrs Stewart Harry N Tolles secretary of the tate organization made the announcements announce-ments for todays sessions t Provo A consecration and song service led hy Mr Tolles concluded the evening Cession The delegation from the north and the Ogden Endeavorers will proceed to Provo on a special train this morning They will be accompanied by the Salt Lake delegation which it Is expected will be quite large I Rally at Provo Provo May 12At the Christian Endeavor En-deavor rally here this evening Francis E Clark president of the International ChrIstian Endeavor union spoke of the work being done hi the Endeavor mis sions in Various parts of the world which he had visited particularly in I Canada and Cuba He described in an interesting way the Christian work carried on by the unions there |
