Show WILL ELECT OFFICERS + Important Session of the Labor Union Today + CONTEST FOR ONE PLACE SEVERAL CANDIDATES FOR OFFICE OF-FICE OF SECRETARY + Constitution of the New Organization Organiza-tion Is Completed Per Capita Tax Fixed at 10 CentsSecretary of Miners Federation Makes a Mysterious Mys-terious Trip 4 There will be today one of the most interesting sessions that the Western Labor union has held since it has been in convention here for the election of officers for the ensuing year will occur It has been set as a special order for this morning at JO oclock There is a I quiet I but earnest interest In the contest con-test which may arouse the delegates But on no position except secretary treasurcr is there a contest worth noting not-ing There is hardly any doubt of the reelection of President Dan McDonald It seems to be the unanimous opinion of the delegates that he should be con I I C B NASH OF SPOKANE tlnued in the presidency In fact no one In opposition to him has been mentioned men-tioned But there are four candidates for the position of secretarytreasurer These are M J Geiger of Butte W J Walker of Spokane P M McPhee and H A Wiley of Cripple Creek These men are not making a strong canvass for the place They are merely mentioned and are known as delegates who would not he unwilling to take it It is impossible im-possible to make a prediction about the election though probably Walker and McPhee are more often spoken of than any others Other officers to be elected are the 3 vicepresident and five members of the executive board For these positions there has been no contest at all and no names are mentioned It is likely howeer that there will be manynom inations In the convention today Constitution Completed The labor people finished work on their constitution and ritual yesterday After the passage of resolutions upon the death of Myron W Reed they went I into committee of the whole to consider con-sider the different clauses and paragraphs para-graphs of the constitution There were few things of Importance considered The per capita tax was placed at 10 cents per month This amount must be given for the general fund of the order through the local unions A transfer card was also arranged for so that members moving from one city to another an-other may enter unions without dilll culty cultThe The business of the Miners federation in Its convention yesterday dragged along very slowly Amendments to the constitution and various parts of the 4 ti 1 1 YI I I J DAVID C COATES OF PUEBLO picsidents address were considered and acted upon The amendments were all of a routine nature providing for different methods of work in the local unions and their relation to the federation federa-tion James Maher the secretary of the federation returned yesterday from a mysterious trip out of town Some of the miners said that he went to Butte with the records of the federation to put thr m away so that they could not be found in case of an arrest of the leaders When it was rumored on Tuesday that otllcers were on their way here from Boise it is said that he left at on < e But the majority of them and the leaders deny that he went on such a mission b Defense of Miners i Attorney Jones of Wallace is here in consultation with the officials of the federation upon the defense that will be made of the prisoners at AVardner Wo have not yet decided upon attorneys attor-neys for the case said President Boyce last night It Is not true that we have I chosen exSenator Allen of Xebraska ad Deputy United States Attorney Frank C Robertson of Spokane to aid II t i Oonts Morphy of Wallace These fcttnrnoys will be permitted to choose t their associates in the case I |
