Show TRlfO TO DuDE IE POLICE I SIRS MARSHALL GETS HERSELF f INTO TROUBLE I I I Officers Swooped Down and Arrested Her For Keeping a House of Prostitution Pros-titution Scene at the Station J As a sequel to quiet investigation that I h gone on for a week past a a warning warn-ing to many others and as the direct result r suit of some sensational occurrences last night Mrs A M Marshall will answer to the charge of keeping a house of prostitution prostitu-tion at 59 Sat Second South It is not a houso widely advertised and known brt bears the name of the Golden Gate of which Mrs Marshall is proprietress and which has the appearance and is held out to be a respectable apartment house Mrs Marshall was arrested last night and after spending an hour or so In jail procured 10 > bail and was released She I will be remembered as the star witness for the defense in the Lou Hamilton murder mur-der case Detective Sheets was stopped last evenIng I even-Ing on the street by the woman who entered en-tered Into a discussion of the affairs of her house and dropped the remark that I home of her fpee no good to her Shortly afterward she again stopped the detective and renewed the conversation conversa-tion She said she was keeping n good house and with that pulled out her purse and opened I apparently with the intention lective of attempting to bribe the de Bribery Play Put that up said the latter cr Ill have you thrown in jail adding some remarks re-marks very uncomplimentary to the landlady land-lady and leaving her near Commercial street I At about 9 oclock a man came to Officer I Of-ficer Hempel who was on his beat and told him he was wanted at the Golden Gatehouse Gate-house He responded immediately and was met In the doorway by Mrs Marshall who depullcated her conversation with the detective She held a 50 cent piece in her hand during the talk and suddenly held it out toward him letting it droo with a ring on the sidewalk The officer picked It up and was about to return U to her when he found she had hastened + upstairs He turned then to sea two or three men standing on the curb all ot whom had heard the coin light and witnessed wit-nessed the Incident They are believed to have been stationed there by the woman and that the whole thing was an arrangement arrange-ment concocted to rotect herself from the police by Implicating the officer incase in-case she should bo arrested upon her assertions to Detective Sheets Officer Hemnel ran at once to the station sta-tion and reported the occurence protesting protest-ing that she had deliberately tried to pet him into trouble Chief Hilton sent him back to the place at once to arrest Mrs Marshall upon the charge first named It Is not unlikely a charge will be preferred for attempted bribery The woman was brought to the station and seemed very much affected over her arrest She was hysterically inclined and very angry by turns She refused to be searched and defied the police to take he jewelry which included two diamond rlnzs and a pin She was finally locked in jail and searched by force during which proceeding she swooned or feinted and offered every possible resistance re-sistance Her ball was furnished shortly beforo 10 oclock after which she was released and returned home In a cab |
