| Show AT THE SACRED HEART ACADEMY The first day of the closing exercises of the Sacred Heart academy was yesterday yes-terday Although characteried by thoroughness and excellent work the exercises yesterday were not expected to be as elaborate as those of today will be when the class of 1896 will graduate The exercises began with an instrumental instru-mental selection three pianos being used with two little girl musicians at each instrument Miss Etta Ktesel of the class of 97 recited an admirably worded essay entitled en-titled A Study of Milton The premiums in the junior department depart-ment were then awarded to the pupils by Rev P M Cushnahan Misjs Lilian Langsdorf recited Two Portraits in a most impressive manner man-ner The May Pole dance by the little girls was about as pretty an exercise of the kind as could well be imagined Little Myrtle Keck made a warm friend of everyone in the audience by her ingenious tale of Myrlles Wants A gavotte by Miller executed on three pianos with two at each piano was an exquisite piece and rendered with remarkable finish and accuracy by Misses A Kenny Ray Keck Ruth Avery R Vickery Belle Raddon M Conroy B Lessenger and D Me Mullen Little Ruth Avery was somewhat hampered in rendering her song by a I touch of hoarseness but she went bravely through it j A quadrille piano piece with two magicfingered misses at each instrument instru-ment was the next number A gavotte ga-votte by Muller was the piece and executed I exe-cuted with remarkable unison and in a way to win hearty applause I The performers were Misses Donelin Wilson F Reddy R Vickery N Kenny Ken-ny M Keith H Barton and B Barton Bar-ton The certificates of the senior department de-partment were then given out and the class honors announced by Father Cushnahan I j The retiring march was an intricate but pleasing piece by Hoist but was I finely rendered Rev Father Cushnahan in making the closing address called attention to tiw wide range of subjects pursued attire at-tire academy and called it to witness I that the Catholic church was anything but a friend to ignorance I HURT WITH A DRILL |
