Show ATETAKERSRE AT OO RELATIONS WITH POWER PLANOW BROKEN OFF Bequest That Lamson Be Allowed tof Reservoir Jordan Flow Denied Byjf Managers of Canals The apparently cordial relations that have existed between the Salt Lakaj City Water Electric Power company and the several canal companies which take water out of the Jordan river atj the south end of the valley were abruptly ab-ruptly broken off yesterday A few days ago Manager Lamsonoft the power company realized that the flood tide from Utah lake is nearly over for the season and that if an increased1 volume of water is to be secured for the power wheels his desires could only be attained by putting in some planks at the lower dam to hold the water back Sir Lamson made known his wishes to the presidents of the canal companies and yesterday the canal managers met in the county commissioners commis-sioners office to devise a plan of action Watermaster Seddon representing the city and Attorney Franklin S Richards Rich-ards were also present It required the canal companies representatives rep-resentatives only a few minutes ta conclude that Mr Lamson had no right to raise the water above the compro mice point which was fixed after long years of litigation with Utah county farmers and moreover that the canal ca-nal commission could not permit it to be done Fearing also that the power company might be watching a chance to get a cinch on the canal interests the meeting quickly adopted a resolution resolu-tion declaring that the dam must not be interfered with in any manner and directing that the watchman be notified noti-fied of the conclusion It is said there is not as much water by S3 foot as heretofore in the Utah t Salt Lake canal through which the power plant obtains its flow utilizing the citys water in addition and redelivering re-delivering it to the ditch across the Jordan and it is claimed the plan oC increasing the volume of water as proposed pro-posed by Mr Lamson would operate more to the disadvantage of the Salt Lake City and the south Jordan canals than to the other big ditches On the other hand Mr Lamson declares de-clares he is seeking to do nothing that will harm any canal interest and nothing noth-ing unjust or unlawful The meeting took no action upon the city councils request that the Irrigatl ing companies join it in expending sur flcient money to put in the river a per1 manent weir and weirs at the eanatf Intakes to accurately measure the division di-vision of water a move that will ba imperative before the summer is over |
