Show THE SOLDIERS RATIONS General Otis Tells of Changes That Have Been Made Washington June 3 The war department de-partment has received the following cablegram Manila June 3Adjutant General Washington Under war department directions May 6 approved report board on proper components ration recommends no change In field and travel rations but modifies garrison ration ra-tion as follows efOl Issue fresh beef and bacon two days one day salmon in lieu of beef Is desired reduction ration fresh beef and lour to sixteen ounces two ounces rice two dried fruit in lieu of heef I two ounces oatmeal in lieu of flour t no savings issue beans rice f rsh vegetables coffee tea continue In quantities as at present Sugar ration increased to twenty pounds with syrup in lieu as now authorized increased for use with oatmeal or dried fruit no sayings i say-ings vinegar reduced onehalf pickles substituted no other modifications Full report mailed OTIS It is a matter of congratulation to k the department that there is no radical l V cal change recommended the opinion havingbeen all along that he present ratios which Is the result of 100 years > 1 r 1F > c T > of experience and experiment is the most scientific and satisfactory that could be obtained Other reports on the same subject have been called for from the several departments but that from Manila is the first to be received |
