TOWN IS DESTRUYED DY fIE BUSINESS PART OF REPUBLIC WASH I ASHES Powder Used and Buildings Blown Up to Stop Ravages of the Flames Damage 8250000 1250OOO Republic Wash Juno 3A disastrous dis-astrous fire broke out here at 6 oclock this morning and before the flames taes were brought under subjection th damage amounted to a Quarter of a I million dollars At noon today the busine portion of the town is a mass of smouldering ruins while on three side are rows of scorched buildings marking the path of the flames The fire fighting apparatus could not check the blaze and it was only used to save some of the buildings outside the fire zone that were smoking and breaking into flames at times fae tmes The fire started by the explosion of a gasoline stove in tha Siegel building on Clark avenue where some men were cooking breakfast I spread on the west side of the street to Brownes restaurant and south to the Republic Trading companys store On the west side two entire blocks were destroyed At first powder was used to blowup blow-up the building occupied by Alexanders law office on the opposite side of the rossstreet from Percys building The latter building was sent skyward and the flying brands scattered the fire to the buildings on the east side of Clark av nuc I Is rumored that two opium fiends were burned in one of the buildings NO authenticity Is given for the report and it Is impossible to learn where the suppose victims were loopt wi Twenty eight bi d c >
