Show The Wizard of the Nile The Frank Daniels engagement was a great success financially and people peo-ple surely received their moneys worth of fun One doesnt go to see comic opera expecting to be elevated or instructed and those who do expect this are the ones who are always so disappointed The Wizard of the Nile which was Daniels first opera success was presented pre-sented at the Theatre yesterday afternoon after-noon and evening I is staged quite as handsomely as The Idols Eye and I details are carefully observed although I there is not as much opportunity in the Wizard for handsome costumes on the part of the chorus The plot of the first opera given here far excels in originality and fun and affords vastly better advantages for Daniels The second is better from a musical standpoint stand-point there are some exceedingly pretty choruses and some charming lyrics l fall to handsome Miss Redmond who renders them in an utterly inanimate inani-mate fashion Miss Redmonds appearance appear-ance is her strong bid for favorshe is little of a singer and she lacks dramatic I dra-matic expression As Cleopatra the princess who knows naught of love I Miss Redmonds protestations of her innocence were scarcely convincingly enough portrayed to mislead one Her I unusual attractions of face and figure r however render her very satisfactory for comic opera Danforth and Wheel an have not as much opportunity in The Wizard of the Nile but make the best of what the librettist has given I them Mr John B Park as Cleopat ras music teacher displays a pleasing I voice and attractive personality Miss I Kopp is fetching as the apprentice i Daniels Is Daniels always the same full of fun never quiet inimitable in I his humor but with scarcely as much scope as he had in The Idols Eye I There is more music in The Wizard of I the Nile but those who want Daniels t will prefer The Idols Eye The Theatre was packed for every I performance and even at the dollar matinee seats were at a premium I |
