700000 shares dealt in and the average net rise in prices wa from 1 to 2 points in tho shares Which figured most extensively I exten-sively in the dealings There was a diversion diver-sion of interest from the Pacidcs into S higher priced stock the grangers beng the gainers The excitement on the floor of the stock exchange was tremendous There was an unusually large attendance of brokers for the short session as the contant inilux of outsIde orders rendered it necessary for the large dealers to transfer trans-fer considerable of their business to the hands of smaller brokers at the regular commission between members Stocks opened buoyant and active HIgh prico records passed unnoticed in the C01 fUhibn Brokers fought to execute orders 2 and simultaneous transactions In many 1 Khares were widely apart London had hres wee Y early received large purchasing orders from this side and the quotations from i that quarter showed general advances The rapidity of the rise brought out immense im-mense blocks on realizing sales but the sustained buying power of the market absorbed all offerings after a temporary reaction and prices again mounted upward up-ward The market haled ugan momentarily pending the publication of the weekly bank statement but on its appearance showing increases of 4732 703 in the surplus sur-plus reserve and 3W2 00 in the loan account ac-count bullish Railway I Lead and Lacleae Gas Generally speaking while there were i somo sharp recessions from the extraordinary extraor-dinary high opening the market regained most of the decline The market ciosed with some irregularity but generally strong and active with important gains I in many cases A noteworthy feature was a large rise in Burlington on renewed I 1 rse Eossip concerning the prospective refunding refund-ing of their outstanding bonds This talk however was little more definite New York Air Brake made an extreme advance I ad-vance of 9 points while Southern Railway preferred and Atchison preferred were up over 2 noints each and Federal Steel I common which has lately been rather neglected although reacting from top prices ended with a net gain of 1 The largest 1nI in any specialty was in Brooklyn Rapid Transit which had an Initial nse of 2 points on confirmation otis ot-is acquiring control of the Nassau Elec trc company The weeks business was the most remarkable re-markable in the history of Wall street Transactions for the week in stocks reached the enormous figure of 5S12Oil making the daily average for the full days session over a million snares Deal Ings In the bond market were attended with the usual market variations in the semispeculative issues There was in general a disposition to employ idle capital cap-ital In stock trading where the rapid fluctuations gave promise of a speedy profitable return Investment houses reported re-ported that their books were tIed up with orders for prime liens and although issues is-sues of this character came to hand sue through foreign lc the absorption power of tho market prevented any shad pwer ing in prices Ji L S 2s advanced 1 and the 3s and the 51 new 4s in the bId price U S 5s coupon I declined
