Show PREPARE FOR A CHARITY BALL There will be a grand charity bal given by the ladies in charge of the gen Orphans Home on the 24th of November Novem-ber It has been ten years since anything any-thing of this kind was attempted in this city in the Interest of the homeless and motherless waifs anfn castaways who live upon the generosity of the community The public used to take the keenest interest in charity balls and hundreds of dollars were obtained in this way for the care and training of the orphans Since the last event of the kind the ladies who give their time and attention to the orphanage have had to make appeals from month to mate month for aid and while liberal responses re-sponses have been the rule it would be better in the absence of a Derma asence nent fund and a regular income to collect col-lect as much as possible at once leaving leav-ing the judicious expenditure ofthe fund to the excellent judgment of the committee in charge or the home It is a nonsectarian institution every religious denomination in the city being represented on its directorate director-ate I is not a permanent home for the children but a refuge until they can find real homes Children are being be-ing gathered in all the year and sent out as fast as people can be induced to adopt or employ them The utmost kindness is shown them in the home and commendable care Is exercised in finding them places where they will be well treated and respectably reared There could be no better motive behind a charitable work Men or women van not take interest in a nobler cause Those who are willing to take a hand who are ready to do their part in this work of amelioration of lifting up the children of poverty and shame to occupy honorable positions and to lead lives of usefulness are expected to meet in the Kenvon hotel Darlors next Wednesday when the plans will I be laid out and the parts assigned I is only by systematic effort that the best results are obtainable and a good attendance Wednesday evening will insure in-sure a successful ball |
