Show PARLEY IS A BUTCHER Why White Should Be Elected Treasurer i WILL REDUCE LICENSES 4 BHHCUIOUS PLEDGES MADE FOR REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE t Tells the Butchers That He Will Fix the License to Suit Them and They Need a Butcher In the City f Treasurers OfficeCannot Pool Democrats 4 I Parley White has a new argument in favor of his election to the city treas urership It is even more ridiculous t than some of the other arguments he has been advancing and is calculated to i lose him a good many votes Parley is If allowing those who are campaigning for 3iim to say that if i elected he will reduce L re-duce licenses to suit those who pay t hem themThis is the story as related by A E I Poulton who with his brother runs a butcher shop and grocery at 424 South Second West street A day or two ago said MrPoulton yesterday Sir White and two of the employees of the White Mercantile company drove up to our shop in a surrey They came inset in-set up tho cigars and began talking about Parleys candidacy for the treas urership The men who were with I White were Charley Holley and a man f by the name of Myers 4 Parley didnt say much but Holley and iyersdi i a lot of talking in his presence and as he didnt contradict them I supposed he agreed with what they said They told me that we ought all to vote for Parley first because he was butcher and we butchers should have some representation in the coun itve cil Would Reduce Licenses Then they said that if Parley was j elected he would fix the license at a figure that would suit us I told them I didnt see what the treasurer had to do with fixing licenses and Myers said that whatcver the treasurer 7TTnted r was adopted by the counciL The F treasurers word is law said Myers r Whatever he recommends goes I finally told the party that I couldnt do anything for Parley that I was for Barnes and the entire Democratic i Demo-cratic ticket They talked some more about how Parley would fix up the license li-cense proposition and about how we ought to have a butcher there but they I didnt make me change my mind because be-cause I knew very well their proposition was absurd I Finally they went out but almost instantly in-stantly Myers came back and said Maybe were as good Democrats as you are except on the question of electing Parley White didnt take any part in the conversation and in fact had very little to say on any subject All of this was said though where he could hear it and he offered no objection to the argument ar-gument used Mr Poulton was naturally indignant that the White electioneering party had I sized him up as having so little sense as to believe their talk about the ability of White to change licenses to suit himself him-self or anybody else It is understood that his is not the only case where such arguments have been used Mr White has allowcJ his friends to make similar talks in other groceries and butcher shops but it Is not believed that they have found anybody who put I faith in their fairy tales |
