| Show BE FRIENDLY TO SALT LAKE I Before too TransMississippi congress adjourned it adopted a resolution recommending Hi recom-mending that the Democratic and Repub lican national conventions be held in Omaha next year There was a time in the history of Omaha when that resolution would have been combatted by her own neighbors Council Bluffs and Lincoln The jealousy between I those cities was as intense as it was foolish No occasion for It ever existed except that I by reason of natural selection Omaha forged to the head as the first of trans Missouri cities It soems that this feeling is now allayed that instead of harboring envy and malice towards Omaha the other cities especially in Nebraska feel a sense of pride in the energy and grit which rendered her present pres-ent proud position feasible and they all recognize at last that any benefit that may inure to the metropolis must necessarily necessa-rily reflect to the credit and advantage of the rest of the state In Colorado this friendly feeling has always al-ways existed That state always recognized recog-nized Denver as queen and thereby aided to her marvellous growth which in turn cast a lustre over the entire commonwealth common-wealth Utahs capitalSalt Lake surpasses both Denver and Omaha in all the essen tials that give zest to life and in the course of human events it will be a greater city than either There is no reason why every other city within the territory should regret or retard this consummation There is no room for jealousy and envy but considerable con-siderable for cooperation and leciproclty The destiny of Salt Lake city is fixed and it cannot be changed except through the criminal and persistent neglect of her own citizens Against this we must guard We dont know nor do we say that there is 1 nay deepseated prejudice against the capital capi-tal in any part of Utah but if there is it is unjust and will pass away as the natural predominance becomes daily more marked even as was the case in Omaha Salt Lake is friendly to all Utah and all Utah should be friendly to Salt Lake |
