Show DIED IN THE STREET Pete Connors Demise Probably Due to Alcoholism I At the conclusion of a protracted spree Pete Connor aged 55 years and a cook by profession yesterday sought a quiet place in the rear of Malquists blacksmiths shop in Plum Alley and quietly went into that sleep which knows no waking He died without a struggle and the workmen about the I shop noticed nothing unusual about I the man except his continued silence and continued occupancy of the same place An investigation after the man had remained in the rear of the shop over two hours revealed the fact that he was dead I Connor has been a resident of this city for years and is well known to the people about town He was a cook and recently worked in the Columbia chop house His place of lodging was the Leadville House on East Second South From Saturday evening until the time of his death the unfortunate was under the influence of liquor which was no new condition to him Shortly after 1 oclock yesterday morning Ed Malquist and Richard Morrison two of the workmen In Ma quLts shop saw a man fall onto his I face in the middle of the road east I of the shop on Plum Alley and rushed oijt to his assistance He was plainly under the Influence of liquor and thinking to give him a place to sleep off the influence of the intoxicant the I men helped him to the rear of the shop and at his request placed him in a I sitting posture against a building di I rectly in front of the rear doo of the rmithy After occupying tint position for a short time Connor laid down against the wall of the building and went into his last sleep I was nearly I1 I oclock when the discovery was made i that he had died without a struggle and the coroner was at once notified In a very short time the remains were I occupying the sab in the morgue and I this morning at 10 oclock Coroner I Taylor will hold an inquest for the purpose of arriving at the cause of Connors death |
