Show THE COURT AT BEAVER OPENING OF THE MAY TERM YESTERDAY I YES-TERDAY MORNING Both the Civil and Criminal Calendars Calen-dars Were ITansnally 1arse Sonic of the Cases to Be Tried Beaver May 7ESpecialThe May term of the Second district court convened con-vened today with Judge Bartch on the bench and Thurman and McCarty prosecuting pros-ecuting The criminal and civil calenders are unusually large so that the term will involve perhaps three weeks hard twork on the part of the officers The setting of the civil calender was the first business taken up and was followed fol-lowed by the hearing of the law and motion mo-tion docket The principal civil cases for trial are the Kenyon case against Henry Emerson Emer-son Riddle against Reese and several suits against the Rob Roy company Jack Wicketts charged with the murder mur-der of his squaw was arraigned and Kenner Christian Pave were appointed his counsel Cummings the embezzler and Morris exdistrict clerk were arraigned the latter lat-ter pleadinjr not guilty In the Dickenson larceny case the court ruled on defendants affidavit of impecuniosity and motion to have his witnesses subpoened at the expense of the government that the affidavit must set forth facts to enable the court to determine de-termine whether such witnesses were material and necessary further stating he was averse to making the government pay for subpoening more witnesses than absolutely necessary This ruling Is viewed with dismay by those affecting to be impecunious The grand and petit juries will be called tomorrow |
