Show SHOT THE BUSINESS MANAGER Narrow Escape from Death in the EscnpC Chronicle Office San Francisco May 7 James B Eliot business manager of the Chronicle Chroni-cle narrowly escaped death from a pistol pis-tol shot fired by Jake Rudolph a well known l cal politician in the Chronicle business office shortly after noon today I to-day Rudolph entered the office and I was making a noisy demonstration in abuse of Mr M H De Young when i Mr Eliot interfered Rudolph drew a pistol and the business manager closed with him An exciting struggle ensued and Rudolph discharged the weapon at Eliot The ball ranged downward and struck a silver dollar in Elicits trousers trous-ers pocket saving him from serious if not fatal injury Rudolph was arrested and charged wit assault to murder He has a very bad record having spent some years in San Quentin for a murderous assault as-sault He was for a long time the bodyguard body-guard of exBoss Buckley His grievance griev-ance against Mr De Young appears to have been wholly imaginary and was perhaps the outcome of a recent protracted pro-tracted spree |
