Show With tie Army The Salt Lake contingent of the Commonweal army commonly known as Carters command is still encamped at the Old Telegraph mill near Bingham Bing-ham Junction and the date of the departure de-parture for the east is still a matter of a great uncertainty as it was two weeks ago I is said however that the people in the vicinity of the camp while in sympathy with the members of the army are thoroughly tired and want to rId themselves of the extra burden They know when they have I had enough and are now ready to aid materially in the movement of the I troops They are willing to send out their wagons and teams for the transportation I trans-portation of the commissary and bedding a far as Lehi and it is more than likely that this plan of procedure will be adopted within the next day or two The start may be made today as it is understood Carter has given up all hopes of obtaining immediate transportation for his men over the railroad The people of Lehi have been expecting the arrival of the army for several days and the only surprise to them is that it does not put in an appearance Provisions have been secured se-cured and the men would be well treated in their march through Utah treate county i AT THE CAMP I At the camp everything was quiet yesterday I yes-terday The men amused themselves in the usual manner putting in most ot the time eating and sleeping with occasional i oc-casional expeditions for food The pO I pie are treating the soldiers well and they have no difficulty in securing sufficient suf-ficient food to eat Regular military i i discipline is maintained at the camp by the officers The feeling of unrest is growing daily and the men are anxious to get under way A small party of deserters from the Kelly army known at the camp as the Calif nia contingent contin-gent has been making life miserable for the other soldiers and it is said warrants war-rants will be sworn out for the arrest of the members of the gang They are probably influenced by outside agents who desire to see them disband agentsl General Canter was in the city during I dur-ing the entire day and held several conferences con-ferences with the leaders of the horns reserve movement and the members of the citizens committee in the hopes of c devising some plan by which the army can b moved with a train As usual he was not successful in that line and has now given up hope of securing a train for the present Just what will be the developments today none can foretell as much will be left to the army itself The rumor that the command I the said mand was disbanding e general i last night is false in every particular I |
