progressive pro-gressive men Every one of them is in t favor of public improvements It has been stated that the city council of Ogden needs t mote power to pass ordinances and enforce them As the matter stands now three or i four or half a dozen men can prevent the council from ordering improvements that are demanded by nine tenths of all the citizens citi-zens Our representatives having the best interests of Ogden at heart would confer a favor en all the citizens by amending the charter to permit of public improvements being prosecuted extensively The chamber cham-ber of commerce is the proper body to formulate form-ulate a plan for bringing about the desired reform It is said that 6100000 has been expended in graveling the streets of this city and yet they are far from being good Putting gravel on this soil is like pouring water into a rat hole As the gravel sinks into the ground the mud rises to the surface Crushed stone Ejratiito or limestone a should supersede the use of gravel in our T streets Prepare a foundation of coarse broken rock and place upon it a wearing surface three or four inches thick of line broken rock and at a cost but little in excess ex-cess of what is now being paid a good generally gen-erally acceptable and serviceable street will have been secured The iirst thing to do is to narrow up the roadways in the residence portion of the city It is to be hoped that this matter will receive the attention at-tention of the gentlemen composing our city council |
