Show AN JNDIAN CAPTIVE The Government Is Trying to Rescue 1 little I White Girl From the Blackfeet Indians Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch WINNIPEG Manitoba Feb 4When Lord Stanley governorgenaral of Canada and party were here last fall they visited L I the Blackfeet reservation near Macleod A very pretty little white child of five or six years was noticed notced playing about with L the Indian children On chidren inquiry it was learned from the interpreter named Winni peg JacK that the girl who tirl belonged to C him had been captured in the United States during an Indian raid Lord Stanley tried to induce the Indians to part with the child but they would not The story got into the papers and this information reached the American government A followed and sufficient information correspondence i sufcient was ob tained ob to make it apparent that the little girl was the daughter of some American Indians officer who was lulled in battle with the Indans Accordingly the other day an American officer arrived at Macleod under instructions from the government to re cover the child at any cost The Macleod Gazette says This may not be a particu larly simple operation as the Indians will probably refuse to give her up The police will no doubt do their utmost to gain the object for which the officer has visited Canada and with their assistance there is every reason to hope that the little girl will gir be wi recovered and saved from the wretched fate which awaits her should she remain with the Indians remai |
