Show Funeral Services over 31rs ali Miss Tracy WASHINGTON Feb 5 Services over the remains of the wife and daughter of Secre tary of the Navy Tracy were appointed for 1 oclock but long before that time the east room in the White House Whie was crowded 1 It was a most distinguished distmished gathering in eluding nearly everybody of cluding evcl prominence in Washington It is estimated that estmated nearly a thousand nearr persons were in the house A great crowd gathered outside and it was found necessary to station policemen at the gates to keep them out The caskets con I taining the dead were placed side by side under the chandelier The sombre 5 draping of the caskets were almost concealed b by y flowers and garlands and wreaths were banked against the sides of each The mourners and presidential party were as signed seats fronting the caskets Foreign ministers and army and navy officers were present in great numbers nearly all in full ful uniform Members unifor of the cabinet except Secretary Blaine acting as pallbearers took seats on the right Ihey were fol I lowed by Secretary Tray and his son Frank and ocher othll members of his family As soon as they were seated the choir of St Johns Episcopal church sang the hymn Lead kindly light Rev Dr George William Douglas rector of the inmo church read the Enisconal hnri1 vice and at its conclusion the choir sang Jesus lover of nay soul The Scripture lesson was read by Rev Elliott and Elott prayer byDr Douglas concluded the pryer The President with Secretary Tracy on his arm first passed out of the room The bodies were removed to the hearses and the funeral procession formed moving slowly to Rock Creek cemetery where the bodies were placed in a receiving vault to await their permanent resting place Secretary Tracy did not go to the cemetery as it was feared the task might prove too much for his strength The President occupied the S carriage with Frank Tracy and the long line of carriages containing nearly all those 5 who attended services in the White House followed thp remains tn the rnmptprv |
