Central Salt Lake city and Itapid Transit Railroad companies all had Itairoud compae al tranchises to con struct tracks at the intersection of Fifth South and Tenth East streets and in the work so far done by them no reference seemed to be had to the joint rights of the several companies but each operated in its own way and for its own particular good regardless rCRurUess of the public and apparently for the purpose of precluding all otaers The rosetta snch action was to disttfjure the acton dsfbf the streets with unnecessary obstructions which i no way benutltted the contending companies He suggested that some action be taken in the matter On motion of Councilman iembroke the mat ter was referred to the committee on streets PROVIDING FOR VACANCIES City Attorney Merritt reported that in view of the vacancy in the office of city recorder he submitted a bill for an ordinance providing for lining vacancies that may exist In any elective office of Salt Lake city The charter author ized the council to provide for such vacancies as might occur to any elective office etc He found upon examination that there was no ordinance ordi-nance providing the filling of such vacancy and he therefore reported the bill and asked Its is passage before the council proceeded to 1111 such vacancy THE UNIVERSITY ASSESSMENT In regard to the special assessment against the Dcseret announced that Mr Jack was elected Ir GREAT SALT LAKE HOT SPRINGS RAILWAY The resolution granting a franchise to tho Great Salt Lake Hot Springs railroad company com-pany was then taken up The resolution grants th company franchise to build and operate angle sib a-ngle or double track railway to be operated by steam dummy horse cable or electricity on the following streets becinning at the Intersection In-tersection of South Temple and East Temple streets and running thence north on East Temple Tem-ple over the aqueduct thence west on North Temple to Third West also a single track only from the intersection of North Temple and Third West street to Niuth north thence northwesterly north-westerly along Monroe street to the boundary line of Hamilton streetthence west along Hamilton Hamil-ton to the westerly boundary of the city limits Also a single and double track beginning at the south boundary of Oak street of Folsoms addition addi-tion at a point opposite alluy between lots I i and38 block 17 thonce northerly toCler land I j avenue thence northerly along Cleveland venue and the county road 1320 feet to a point on the weiierly boundary hac of the county I road The company
