Show BENNETT AND KUSSEUL YOUNG The ex3IInister Gives a Dinner to General Prjor Which Causes Trouble with Bennett Special to THE HERALDExaminer Dispatch NEW Yom Dec l3A Press special from Washington says John Russell Young is the guest of his brother James R Young in this city There is a possibility of his reappointment as minister to China if any change occurs however it will not be before spring The severing of Mr Youngs connection with the New York Herald is doubtless tho result of his having given General Pryor a dinner upon his appointment ap-pointment to the bench by Governor Hill James Gordon Bennett has very strong reason for not wishing any member of his staff to confer favors upon Judge Pryor The feud is of long standing but Scotch men as a rule have good memories and Mr Bennett is no exception Thirty years ago when General Pryor vas a Representative Represent-ative from Virginia he made a speech upon the floor of the House one day which was a most bitter personal attack upon the elder Bennett One sentence of it Mr Bennett understood as an imputation against the character of a member of his family and it is this imputation that has rankltSd in the younger Bennetts soul all these years Mr Young told his friends hero today that the first he knew of any trouble was a communication he received from Mr Bennett Ben-nett demanding an explanation fib answered ho knew nothing of any trouble between James Gordon Bennett sen and General Pryor that the Herald since he had been connected with it had always been friendly to General Pryor so far as ho know and that he had no reason to suppose sup-pose that the giving of a dinner by him to General Pryor would bo disagreeable to Mr ennett The only satisfaction he got was a letter demanding his resignation I |
