| Show THE BOY PREACHER lIe Attaches Unto Himself if not Unto His Cause a Devoted Christian Lady Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORk Dee 16From the very first day that the Rev Mr Harrison who is popularly known as the boy preicher began to give revival services at Trinity Methodist church in New Haventhey have been attended by a tall middleaged i woman There was much speculation as Ito I-to who she was but despite questions of the inquisitive ones her identity escaped them until the facts came out unexpectedly I today It appears that the lady is Miss J i Berger of Brooklyn Through the death of an aged aunt a Mrs Augustus Waif I stein she became possessed of quite a fortune for-tune Miss Berger seemed to have become iufatufited with the preacher and on every occasion that ho preached she was to bo found in the front seat and she always contributed con-tributed liberally to collections Mr Harrison Har-rison afterward announced he would give a series of revivals in tho tabernacle and Miss Berger paid a big price at auction for first tickets She always conducted herself a ladylike manner and never tried to become acquainted ac-quainted with tho popular preacher During Dur-ing his stay in Brooklyn tho y unu woman never missed a meeting Mr Harrison at this time was accustomed to meet Miss Berger before the meeting and exchange a few words with her On night when Harrison Har-rison was preaching to an immense congregation congre-gation in the Brooklyn Tabernacle an incident inci-dent occurred which served to attract greater attention than before to the devout young woman She as usual was present in the front scat Mr Harrison in his forcible way had just described the difficulty diffi-culty of getting sinners to accept the truths of the Bible He pointed to a man in the congregation con-gregation whom he declared was a sinner but would be saved Mr Harrison in his haste to reach the side of the sinner in order to bring him to the platform did not descend to the floor from the platform by means of the shortstairs but stopped from the platform to a C31le bottomed chair His foot had no sooner touched the chair when the cane bottom gave way and he was precipitated headlong to the floor Miss Berger it is related started up and shrieked He is hurt This transferred the attention of all present from Harrhon who had recovered himself and was smiling smil-ing to the young woman who then sat I down her cheeks suffused wiih blushes Miss Berger followed the rCIvals rom city to city and continued to lend her financial assistance 1 saw her in Trenton Tren-ton said Rev J M Kooho to a reporter today She and Harrison were in a car She was dressed in a navy blue suit She seemed very much devoted to the cause of religion and spoke very enthusiastically on the subject Miss Burgers actions have created some gossip in New Haven where the boy preacher is at present giving revivals re-vivals in crinity Methodist church It is stated she Qvinced a strong attachment for Mr Harrison and is as faithful as over in her attendance at his revivals Mr Harrison Harri-son refuses to speak to her either in public or private She is stopping at the New Haven house where tho preacher is also located |
