Bennett was as follows The totalnumber of arrests during the month of April was twenty eight of which number twentythree paid their fines in cash one in cash and labor two cases were dismissed and in referred to the committee f com-mittee on streets alleys and bridges A petition of John Diem to use part of Main street for storing building material was granted petition was read from C H Withey for the Crescent Mining company asking that William Don be appointed a special policeman without cost to the city On motion of Alderman Beny the petition was granted and Mr Don was appointed A petition from John McDonald and seventyfour others asking that a sidewalk side-walk be laid from the head of Main street through Empire caflon for ourselves wives and school children was read and referred to the committee on streets alleys and bridges A petition from W G Robson and twentytwo others praying for a sidewalk on the north side ol Sixth street from f Main street to the east side of Woodsido avenue was read and referred to the committee com-mittee on streets alleys and bridges E W Berry chief of the fire department depart-ment reported to the council his correspondence corre-spondence with different companies concerning con-cerning the purchasing of supplies for the department and submitted estimates of cost for the supplies needed On his recommendation Alderman Kimball moved tnat the city purchase the following supplies One thousand feet of hose one hook and ladder truck complete twenty rubber coats one dozen regulation fire mens hats two dozen belts and other minor necessities a cost of nearly one thousand dollars The proposition of Alderman Al-derman Berry to purchase awnings for the windows the city hall was referred to the committee on city property Alderman Alder-man Kimball called up the question of levying the annual city tax and stated that he thought there would be no need of a city tax for this year the treasury having a balance of over seven thousand dollars j and the income from licenses being sufficient suffi-cient to pay the running expenses of the l city government After some discussion it was decided to allow the subject to go over return will leave the Park Sunday at 730 a m The Utah Central will carry the excursionists to Salt Lake Tickets for the round trip are placed at S3 and no doubt a large crowd will go down The Park The action of the council Wednesday evening in ordering supplies for the fire department de-partment was commendable though long delayed It is the intention of Chief Berry toat once organize a hook and ladder company com-pany and make the department thorough in every respect Thereis some good material in the volunteer force and with proper facilities and training they should bo able to handle almost any fire that would start in Park City The May festival is attracting no little attention in the Park and a greatmany are talking of going to attend to it The management of the festival have retain her honors Three roads are running into Park City and twentytwo trains come and go each day The Union Pacific has four trains the Utah Central six and tho Crescent railroad twelve trains daily It will be Park Citys turn to boom next and if being a railroad centre is any advantage she will distance all rivals for a number of paper roads have lines running into town A new feature in the treatment of orb i is soon to be introduced at the Marsac mill ss the roasting of ores in Stedefelt furnaces aud drying in rotary furnaces with gas for fuel instead of wood Superintendent Wilson stated that in a few weeks a Tay lor gas producer would be put in which would supply gas enough for all purposes at the mill and would work a saving to the company of over one thousand dollars per month A crude gas will be manufactured which will be introduced into the furnaces and used in the same manner as wood This will do away with the use of about seven thousand five hundred cords of wood
