THE FOURTH It must be gratifying to all to note the heartiness with which the people are taking tak-ing up the scheme for a grand celebration of the nations anniversary The committees commit-tees having the affair in charge say they never before took so much pleasure in similar work All enter heartily into the pirit of the thing and everybody seems anxious and eager that the celebration shall eclipse in magnificence and grandeur any previous effort The money for the necessary expenses is flowing in freely the contributions being generous and general all classes of the community giving with a cheerfulness seldom manifested We say it must be gratifying to note what is going on fOr it tells of the growth and development of abettor feeling socially and politically and proves that however widely the people may differ as to politics and religion the two things that have i divided the community into classes on pretty nearly all questionsthey are agreed L on the proposition that this is the greatest and best government on the globe Dispute as we may concerning local administrations and policy and quarrel as we will over men and measures as true Americans proud Ir I and patriotic in our love of country on July 4 we will unite in doing honor to the statesmen states-men heroes and humanitarians who gave Us the republic which recognizes the rights of men as men without regard to circumstances circum-stances conditions or individual opinions There is another thing in connection 1 the coming celebration If we can come close together on this occasion as wo are doing the association will leave us reach r-each other and it will be easier thereafter to work harmoniously and unitedly If the Salt Lake people were united if they would permit themselves to know each other better bet-ter their respect for each other would be greater and in a little while they would accomplish ac-complish wonders for the city But we were speaking of the Fourth I The indications are that the celebration of the great anniversary will be glorious because be-cause all will have a hand in it and the spirit of the day will enter into everybody CT
