| Show S I RAILWAY CIRCLES I Demonstrating to the Hallway People the S Advisability Building South As announced by the Utonian last week a delegation from Millard county arrived in Beaver on Friday last in the interest of the railroad question now being agitated through these counties The Beaver city railroad committee mot the delegation Fri day afternoon and a general understanding understand-ing was arrived at The main point of consideration ideration was finding out if the Beaver committee was willing to act with the i lard committee in making a preliminary survey through the two counties to demon strata to the railroad people that to come our way would be largely to their advantage advant-age geThe Millardjcounty committee have been working very zealonsly in this matter for some time They have held meetings with ho railroad people in Salt Lake and have received the assurance that i it can be demonstrated that to run a line from Levan through Fillmore and Beaver cities to the mouth of Fremont nearer than byway by-way of Seveir county and Marysvale and that the road is not any more difficult we may expect the road to come this way I therefore wo assured that this is the case that tho grade is no heavier that the route is shorter we can well afford the expense of a preliminary survey because ofihe assurances which have been given by Mi Tlernan the president of the Utah Nevada St California railroad company ovaca VVe all say we know i is a shorter route by way of Fillmore and Beaver that it is just as practicable a route etc Now lotus lot-us demonstrate it1 prove it by actual survey sur-vey and by our united efforts and determi natioe and good faith secure this great boon geat We are assured that we can have it if wo want i Do wo want it1 Let our actions speak The meeting of the citizens was held last Friday evening Hon J W Christian in the chair The object of the meeting was stated by Hon John R Murdock and very encouraging remarks were made by Hon T C Callister of the Millard county railroad committee The gentleman re ferred to the many great advantages the J I road would be to us all How it would increase in-crease the value of property and how many enterprises that now lie idle from lack of encouragement would spring up and furnish employment for many hands He spoke of the farming facilities of manufacture man-ufacture etc showing pointedly that in order for us to keep pace with the times it was essential for us to have a railroad Chairman Christian followed and stated that the Beaver city railroad committee had agreed to help meet the expense of a preliminary survey through the counties countes named The cost of this work would be from one thousand dollars to one thousand two hundred dollars He believed it could bo demonstrated that to come our way would shorten the route by from twenty to thirty miles from Levan to tho mouth of Fremont The difficulties existing in Mil lard would be experienced in crossine Round Valley hill but he had been assured that a feasible way had been found here In Beaver county there would be Pine Creek hill but these two greatest obstacles and most difficult passes in our counties had offsets in the other valley that were as great i not greater He believed we should make the survey F K Clayton moved that the action of the railroad committee in ordering the sur oy to be made be ratified by this meeting and the cost paid by the citizens Motion Moton nrevailfcd Judge Veile of Millard followed in the same encouraging manner upon the sub ject as taken by the former speakers The Etonian is glad to know and be able to state that our prospects for a railroad are very bright and that the company with whom negotiations are now in progress arc cpmpelled by their articles of incorpo ration to reach the coast inside of two years By this we see no time is to be lost and shall ours be the accepted route we may hopeinside of a year to hear the snort of the iron horse through Beaver city Vlonian 20th |
