TJIEPtE IS MUCH EXCITEMENT I Indian Territory Over the Expected Coming Com-ing of the Messiah Special to TiE HERALD Examiner Dispatch TOPEKA Kan May 24 There is much excitement in Indian territory over the expected ex-pected coming of the Messiahwho is to elevate ele-vate the rsdjnan above the white restock the prairies and forests with game and the streams with fish regulate affairs on earth as they are supposed to be regulated in the happy hunting ground United States District Judge Foster says the Indians camped along the river near Fort Reno have begun a sort of religious festival in obedience to the command of this Messiah and are working themselves in to a frenzy of fanaticism None of the tribes so far as known have rejected the oracles who seem to have secured the cooperation of all the big medicine men Lame Deeran a Montana northern Chey enne Indian called Porcupine returned to the agency from a visit to the Messiah who js about to make his advent among the plains Indians Porcupine had seen the ghost and received from him revelations intended for the Cheyenne tribe He was bound by a horrible oath to the mysterious being never t reveal the new religion to a white man or the place from which it was delivered because many years ago the white men killed him the ghost and would do it again Porcupine in delivering the message from the Great Spirit given him by the ghost went into a trance and spoke in a low tone to the tribe orator who delivered delvered the words in a loud voice to the assembled multitude I was asif Porcupine was the only channel through which the Great Spirit talked to the people This trick made a powerful impression upon the simple sim-ple savages Porcupine declared that ho was bound by an oath to deliver revela tions in no other manner
