Show Presbyterian General Assembly SARATOGA May 24After reading the minutes in Presbyterian general assembly assem-bly today Dr Thompson of New York moved that the report of the committee on concensus of creed be the that order after the vote revision on The motion moton prevailed pre-vailed Dr Erskine chairman of the committee com-mittee on the method of revision read the report of the committee It recommended that tie committee be composed of one member of the assembly from each synod towit nineteen ministers and ten elders to be appointed by tie moderator to nominate to this assembly a committee consisting of fifteen ministers and ten elders which shall be called the assembly committee on I revision of confession of faith which committee I com-mittee when constituted by the general assembly shall consider the suggestions made by the Presbyteries and formulate to the general assembly of 1891 such altera tions and amendments to the confession of faith as in their judgment may be deemed desirable and that this committee shall not nropose any alterations or amendments that will in any way impair the integrity of theiroformed or Calvanistic system of systm doctrine taught in the confession of faith The report was adopted unanimously The moderator appointed a nominating committee naming Dr William C Roberts Rob-erts of Illinois chairman Their report will probably be given Monday Dr Roberts Rob-erts said the overtures of twentysix Pres byteries in lavor of I new concensus of creed should be referred to a committee of nine who should invite the cooperation of the reformed bodies in preparing a short clear comprehensive statement of the points in which all reformed churches are agreed not as substitute a for but as a supplement to the Westminster confession I must contain the essentials of the re formed faith and be the basis of union and cooperation by all affiliated bodies especially especi-ally in their work in foreign lands The motion for a concerisus of creed after much discussion was passed by a large majority The committee on church unity presented its report Emphasis is laid upon federa tion as a principle on which evangelical Christians cannot cooperate |
