Show IT WAS ONE OF TH F3INEST Their Assailant was Not a Footpad but I Policeman f ilt seems that tho party witlwwhom a crowd of young men from the Tenth ward g i had a difficulty on Mondry night was a 1 j policeman instead of a footpad as they supposed The young men were returning home from a party when one of their number I num-ber who was a little behind the others was stopped by a man who pulled a gun on him and told him to keep quiet The others heard this and returned and jumped the man They used him pretty roughly and took his pistol away from him and were about t take him to the police station when the man informed stton than that he was an officer and called attention at-tention to his blue pants The man proved to be Officer Roberts and from the stat ments of the parties it would seam that they were justified in supposimr that they were dealing with a foot pad and the offi cers conduct would seem to be somewhat peculiar There can be no doubt but that the boys honestly believed they were stopped by a foot pad and while the charge I of resisting an officer has been made against them the explanation of tho officer in the police court to day will be awaited I with considerable interest |
