Show A Horrible Accident Near Boston BOSTON Aug lROne of tho most disastrous disas-trous railroad accidents that ever occurred in tho vicinity of Boston and one that rivals the famous Wollaston disaster of October 5 ISiS occurred this afternoon and on the same road the Old Colony and very near the same locality In the Wollaston disas ter fifteen were killed and nearly one hun dred injured To dayfifteen persons were Idled and twentythree seriously injured three fatally and several more sustaing slight injuries The train wrecked The today was the Woodshat express which was due in Boston Bos-ton at 150 p m I consisted of a locomotive loco-motive baggage car smoker Pullman car and four ordinary coaches heavily loaded Thetrain had passed Quincy station running run-ning ten miles per hour and just beyond the Presidents bridge the engine left the track plunged into an embankment twelve feet high the tender baggage car smoker and Pullman passing by the engine and were stretched along for a distance of one hundred feet along the track The foremost passenger coach left the rails and fell upon its left side upon the engine The lower forward portion was torn to pieces and of tho passengers pas-sengers in the cars some fifty in number many were thrown into the corner from which eleven dead bodies were afterwards taken out Escaping steam and smoke from the engine instantly filled the car The forward cars were forced up over the outwardbound train completely blocking traffic all day and night Only three persons ai the head passenger coach were injured These were the fireman who was instantly instanty killed and buried under the engine the engineer and Pulltnancar conductor Benson Ben-son were both badly injured In the three rear passenger coaches the occupants occu-pants received no worse injuries than a slight shaking up The first passenger coach was the principal scene of death and agony and tho experiences of the unlucky occupants werep pbablynaver ey peeded in horror and Wittering in ny railroad wreelc of recent years The killed are Mrs Ericutt AllenJPhiladeIphia Mrs Mary E Fannenry aged 70 Louisville E J Johnson John-son Montpelier Vt John Ryan fireman of the train four women two men and two children unidentified |
