ODD PLANTS Tho Jlotherinlaw tho lauzhlnpr and tho Flying Plants A shrub called the laughing plant grow in Arabia It is of moderate size with bright yellow flowers and soft veivety seed pods each of which contains two or three seeds resembling black beans The natives of the district where the plant grows dry these seeds and reduce them to powder A dose of powder has similar effects ef-fects to those arising from the inhalation of laughing gas It causes tho most sober person per-son to dance shout and laugh with the boisterous excitement of a madman and to rush about cutting the most ridiculous capers for about an hour At the expiration of this time exhaustion sets in and the excited ex-cited person falls to sleep to awake after several hours with no recollection of his unties THE MOTHEEIXLAW The curious plant commonly called the mother inlaw obtained its name in a very singular way An expert of botanical gardens gar-dens attached to Smithsonian Institute in explaining the curious properties of the plant to a reporter mentioned the fact that it had the power of paralyzing the tongue A good thing for a motherinlaw said the reporter and then and there the name motherinlaw was applied to the plant THE FLYING PLAST According to an author there is a very astonishing curiosity in Thibet in the shape of a plant that flies It resembles a dog in shape is the color of a tortoiseshell and is very tame If lions or elephants see it they are frightened hence it is the king of beasts There is also a kind of black donkey which can cope in fight with the tiger CABBAGE HEVD3 When a Missouri cabbage was cut open it was found that the outer coating contained con-tained twentvoight perfectly developed little cabbage heads in a cluster about the size of a walnut and nearly as hard
