Show Accused of Burning His Childs hands Off Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch CUICAGO Nov 23 William Smith living at 54S Park avenue is under arrest charged with the frightful crime of burning off the hands of his little daughter Kitty who now lies at the countyhospital with both arms amputated at the elbow Smith was formerly for-merly a railway conductor who has followed fol-lowed many vocations His wife died at tho county hospital about four weeks ago Four small children were left to the care of the father On Wednesday of last week a Mrs Bross who lives in the same house with the Smith family went to Smiths rooms and offered to look after the little ones She says she found a remarkable state of affairs Smith was drunk and ho had forced little Kitty to drink liquor until she could hardly stand The father demanded de-manded that Kitty get dinner The little girl said sho could not Mrs Bross picked her up and laid her on the lounge and went out of the room A few minutes later the child was heard screaming Oh papa please dont please dont Several of the women of the house rushed into the room and found little Kitty lying on the floor with her hands burned to a crisp Officer Little of the Humane society investigated the case I am convinced said the officer that when little Kitty said she could not get dinner tho father grabbed her as soon as Mrs Bross went out of the room and with devilish cruelty held her hands to the stove until they were burned off The child Is not yet in 0 condition to make a statement Smith maintains that Kitty fell against the stove accidentally |
