| Show ALBRIGHT SET FREE I The Slayer of Captain Parker is Exonerated IE ACTED IN SELFDEFENSE The Testimony Before tho Coroners Jury Confirms Public Opinion and the Prisoner Is Discharged The awful tragedy enacted in front of the city hall on Friday morning when Patrolman Pa-trolman Albright shot and killed Captain Parker continued to bo eagerly discussed on every street corner yesterday The sceno of the killing was visited by hundreds hun-dreds of curious people and the gory details de-tails of thehorrible affair wore goneover again and again The consensus of opinion was of course that Albright was fully justified in what he did and the conclusion was sustained by the evidence taken at the I inqueot That investigation has doubtless brought out all of the material facts and cleared up some things that were unexplained unex-plained It will be remembered that after ho was shot Parker fell at the foot of a tree on tho outer edge of tho sidewalk while I all of the unexploded cartridges from his weapon wero found on tho inside of the walk close to the fence If ho had broken or thrown open his pistol after Albright shot him as the latter claims ho did the cartridges would certainly have been found nearer tho spot where ho fell than they were Again it is not probable that aCtor Albrights bullet had broken the bone of his arm into a dozen pieces ho would have been able to throw the weapon open as Albright says he did The correct theory doubtless is hat when Parker struck Al bright over tho head at the beginning of the encounter the weapon fell apart and the cartridges were ejected and fell where they wore lound In the excitement probably prob-ably neither of the combatants noticed this but from tout time Captain Parker was lighting with an empty and useless gun Nevertheless Parkers whole conduct wa such as to leave no line of action open tc Albright except the one he pursued |
