| Show A CRAZY FRENChMAN He Imagines a Married Woman is in Love With Him He Pursues Mrs Alexander Wherever She Goes He Was Once Ifer Tutor Inspector Byrnes Takes Him I Charge LSpeclal THE HnnAiiD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORK Nov 2 Inspector Byrnes detectives arrested today Louis Armand a crazy Frenchman who has been annoying annoy-ing Mrs Harriott Alexander wife of Charles B Alexander a lawyer of this city living at4 West Fiftyeighth street Mrs Alexander is a daughter of millionaire Crocker of San Francisco Armand has been 1 source of annoyance to Mr and Mrs Alexander for years He was arrested several sev-eral months ago and committed to Wards Island insane asylum Within a few months friends secured his release and he again persisted in paying attention to Mrs Alexander HE FOLLOWED lEn WHEN SHE WENT OUT made repeated attempts to see her and finally threatened her husband He became be-came so persistent that Mr Alexander asked Inspector Byrnes to arrest Armand and he was committed today for examination examina-tion as to his sanity Armand is about thirtyfive years old and well educated Ho is insane on the one subject that Mrs Alexander loves him Ten years ago when Mrs Aleander was in San Francisco Armand was engaged en-gaged as her French tutor He taught Miss Crockor French and when his time tme was up he was dismissed I was then that he began his attentions to her He forced himself on her presence and became such annoyance that the police were asked t interfere A few years later Miss Crocker was married to Dr Alexander When they came to this city Armand followed fol-lowed and soon began to annoy Mrs Alexander Alex-ander again For two years or more he persisted in his attentions until Mr Alexander Alex-ander reported the matter to Inspector Byrnes in January Byrnes had Armand brought before him and warned him to cease his annoyance IT WAS EVIDENT THAT ARMAND WAS INSANE i He told the inspector that Mrs Alexander had been divorced from her husband by Judge Andrews in the supreme court ana that ho loved her and no one could prevent him from having her He continued to annoy an-noy Mrs Alexander and in February he I was arrested pronounced insane and dangerous and committed to the insane asylum Mr A Berger interested himself in Armand got out a writ gof habeas corpus cor-pus and had Armand tried if a jury before Judge McAdam He was pronounced sane at that time and discharged For a time he didnt go near the Alexanders but about two months ago he began to annoy them again He made several attempts to go into the house loitered around the street watched stret for Mrs Alexander and followed her on several occasions Matters got so that Mrs Alexander was afraid to venture out About three weeks ago Inspector Byrnes who is a neighbor of the Alexanders met Armand on the street He grasped the inspector spector by both hands and told him that Mrs Alexander had been divorced He said that THE REASON SUE HAD HIM ARRESTED before was because some one told her that he loved another woman She was jealous he said and sooner than have him love anyone else she had him sent to prison The inspector warned him not to annoy Mr and Mrs Alexander He persisted however and Mr Alexander asked the inspector in-spector to arrest him When Armand was arrested ho endeavored to tear up a letter which ho nad in his pocket I was addressed ad-dressed to Mrs Harriott Crocker Alexander Alexan-der and was an incoherent jumble of words |
