Show A Colt That Joined Herd of Doer V I William Nichols of Milton when gathering his hordes from the range last fall found that favorite Percheron colt was missing and nil efforts to find him prove unavailing so the anlmil was abandoned to its fate which no one doubted would be that of the vast number num-ber that have found their way into the equine paradiso through tho inclemency the unusually un-usually severe winters j Recently Mr Nichols accompanied by another an-other gentleman while hunting deer among the mountains that form tho source of tho Walla Walla river started a band of seventeen seven-teen black tails from a deep canyon and to their surprise observed a yearling colt speeding speed-ing away with the band apparently as frightcne1 as the deer themselves J Although tho colt had acquired their wildness wild-ness by association he lacked the speed of 1 those mountain climbers and was snail left far behind in the mad scramble over the rug j j j i god hills The gentlemen who were well mounted pursued and overtook the colt which proved to be Mr Nichols Percheron i i From the fact that tracks of the colt following I I I lowing tho trail of the deer were seen in several I I sev-eral instances and other evidences that were to be seen it is believed tbat it had spent the entire winter with its strange companions I I and prolonged its existence by following the I guidance of the excellent instinct of tho deer i in search of food when the snow was deep Milton Ore Eagle V |
