Show TIlE SCHOOL CONVENTIONS The central committee of the People party of this county has called primary and general conventions for this tveek the for merto be held tomorrow ercningand the latter on Wednesday evening The official call will be found in this issue of THE HEn JXD The election of school trustees will when occur the second Monday in July 1 trustees our will be chosen under the new law Tee trustees are t be elected by tho respective spective municipal wards and not as heretofore here-tofore by the school districts in future the entire city form a school district t bounder I f bo-under the control of tho trustees chosen bYte by-te five wards The importance of the J election therefore will at ono be understood i under-stood Only registered voters I be allowed lowed to cast ballots and tho election will be conducted as other elections by the regularly reg-ularly appointed judges Up to the present time nothing has been done in alto matter The people seem t have worked themselves out in last winters campaign and that being ended there has since been needed and enjoyable rest from political exertion The time has come again for action and it is expected Xbat it will find the people prepared to tko up the labor and go on with the work in earnestness and with a spirit ofdetermina ton It Is expected that the party organizations organi-zations will bo found intact and ready and eager for the duty In hand It will at once be understood that the coming election i extremely important involving a it does the control of the schools of the city and consequently the education of the children of the people generally The usefulness and success of the educational system itself i involved lor if other than wise arid fair and hones trusts shall be chosen the schools will naturally and necessarily g into decay and the youth will suffer while there will be a moro than useless expenditure of the public money The election concerns individuals in-dividuals more nearly thau any of our political po-litical contests the rich and the poor the J man of family and he with no children I nil are deeply interested Hereafter our I schools will be much more expensive than they have been which fact in itself should cause every citizen t do his utmost t I place learned and capable men In charge and the other thing which should inspire t t0c alt vlth a determination to work now is the t necessity for having the schools conduct f on the nonpartisan nonsectional line marked out by the law Tomorrow evening the primaries will beheld be-held and they should call out all the people peo-ple that the 0 ic of majority may prevail vail in selection of tho delegates t the I nominating convention on Wednesday |
