commences its second term in a few days The attendance attend-ance this winter has been much larger than usual and at such a rate of increase it will not be a great while before we will need an academy second only to the University Of Deseret Salt Lake Notwithstanding nearly if not every other city ard town in Utah is nearly knee deep in mud in beautiful Brigham the streets are dry and we do not really need rubbers although it has been raining and snovvintr most all the time during the last two or three weeks Indeed this is the season of dances and merrymaking Last night there was a grand picnic party in each of the olloiving places One in the Rosenbaum hall one iu the First and one in the Fourth ward Tonight To-night we have a ball in the Third ward hall and a dog show inKnudsons hal The majority of the citizens of Brigham want the name of the postoffice changed from Box Elder to Brigham City This no doubt could be accomplished if a petition were circulated to that effect with the postmasters post-masters endorsement The only objection to the change is that Brigham and Bingham I are so near alike and the postoffice department depart-ment will not allow two offices having the ante name in one state or territory But if it was made Brigham City and the name of the county also used all errors would be avoided and mail intended for Brigham would not be sent to Bingham and vice versa Who will get up a petition The change cannot be brought abeut unless this 15 done Above five hundred notices aDd Xmas greetings were sent out a few days ago to all the prominent people and surrounding country notifying the people that the Utah Loan Trust companys now bank at Brigham Brig-ham city was open and ready for business Report says many thousands of dollars have already been place on deposit and the I bank will secure a good share of the trade i of the merchants of the town as soon as things take on a more tangible shape They have an absolutely burglar and fireproof fire-proof safe guaranteed to withstand the attacks of a number of professional burglars bur-glars forjforts1 hoursand more i necessary This safe has a patent time lock of the I latest model which is tho second of the i kind in territory and nest several hundred hun-dred dollars In the centre of the building build-ing and entirely separated from tho outer waIls is the vault which is of solid brick and fireproof with the exception of an air chamber in the centre thus giving it a good ventilation and any one having money to deposit will find it as safe here a in the Bank of England About the only reason most i not all persons > not personally interested in Brigham Brig-ham city can offer for us not shortly becom njf the principal and by far the mostbeau tiful city in Utah north of Salt Lake is the foolish reply You are too near Ogden Is not this a trifling reason and If the only one should we not be happy How near is Olden to Salt Lake We admit ad-mit we are rather close to Ogden but when the following comes to pass and most of it will next season Ogden may some fine morning wake up to find she is close to Brigham city This is what will bring i about When our city dads lay water pipes from the caflon about four miles when thq Bothwell canal runs through our town and this will be the means of bringing a continuous tour from Ogden to CoUinston with Brigham city a I the trading centre When the Central j Pacific railroad extends its line here from a point this side of Corinne only about four miles distant When the other projected I pro-jected railroad i built through the town and up Box Elder caflon When our great natural gas works and our mines loom up i and few capitalists get in our midst Then ob Ogden beware lest you fine yourself nearer Brigham than we are to Ogden Look out for several new business hoses in the spring sAver RASMUS J BRIGHAM CITY Dec 2 18S9 |
