Show THEREGISTRATION LIST The registration for the municipal election elec-tion has closed Those who have neglected to register and those who have been missed by the registrars cannot now get their names on the list and therefore cannot vote in February Of course i a name has been wantonly and illegally stricken order it reinstated It off the courts may rinstated I is probable there are some such and the judicial authority will be appealed to to right the wrongs committed by partisan officials To what extent there have been or will be erasures of the names of qualified quali-fied voters cannot be told until the alphabetical lists have been made out and apha etc lsts hung up in the respective wards which work must be done at least fifteen days before be-fore election day After that individuals will have an opportunity to inspect the lists and learn i the registrars have stricken their names off and the former may also lodge complaints against persons who are believed to have been illegally registered This matter should be carefully looked into I is well known that the Liberals have been engaged in colonizing work For a time they mantained in this city an employment em-ployment bureau to which men from the country who would promise to vote the Liberal ticket were sent The truth of this is clearly established bj thQ letter from Chairman WIT ECh of Nephi t Chairman POWERS of Salt Lake which has been standing in the editorial column of THE HERALD for some time past How much of this sort of thing has been done only those engaged in it can tell It is also known that last summer arrangements were made to bring in from the mines the Liberal committee t pay the expenses and for the time lost men who would come here to register reg-ister and vote I is believed that many miners and others who have no claim to residence in Salt Lake have been thus I brought in and registered The railroad towns have also contributed to swell the list of Liberal partisans and an attempt will be made to get in a these illegal votes The same tactics were pursued by the Liberals in Ogden at the last election men being brought from Wyoming Nevada and Idaho to vote the Li beral ticket and the polls being kept open after the legal hour for closing in order to accommodate the colonizers who were on a delayed train The People do not want an election which they would have to win by fraud They do not desire that a single member of their party will even attempt to vote unless he has a clear and legal right to do so The principle of majority rule is so firmly established es-tablished in the minds of the People that they would cheerfully surrender control of the municipality rather than hold on asa as-a minority by crookedness At the same time the People want all their rights and demand that they shall not be made to suffer by reason of fraud and illegal voting on the part of the opposition No objection objec-tion will be made to any known hona Me Liberal citizen voting but there should be an earnest protest against permitting any Liberal colonizer or any Liberal miner brought here for the sole purpose of voting to exercise the privilege of voting in this city Formal notice should be given to every resident of Park city t the men of Bingham to those of Ogden of Nephi and of the railway towns that unless they appear ap-pear and establish their right to vote before the opening of the polls their names will be stricken from the list and they will appear ap-pear on election day to no purpose It was a live and clean list that the People demanded de-manded at the commencement of the registration re-gistration and it was such a list that was contemplated in the instructions issued by the commission last fall Now that the registration has closed let us see t it that the purification process be applied to the lst so that when election day shall come only those who satisfy the law will find themselves able t vote |
