Show Flying Molten Metal NEW ORLEANS Dec 28The Plcaguncs Dallas Texas special says Nine men were horribly some fatally burned by a shower of molten metal from an exploring mold at the Mosher Machine companys foundry foun-dry Ross avenue this afternoon at G oclock The names of the victims vic-tims are J A Dobbins molder body head and neck partly riddled by molten metal left ear burned off and the injuries will prove fatal John Hughes molder had his clothing burned from his person and both eyes filled with redhot metal He is burned from head to foot and had to be wrapped in cotton saturated sat-urated with oil and opiates applied Matson molder and foreman of the foundry foun-dry was also fearfully burned about the breast neck and arms but escaped injury to his eyes The molten metal ran into one of his shoes and almost cooked his foot before ho could kick it off He will recover Charles Hurst received two terrible wounds in the back from which the flesh fell in strips and the blood oozed out as his clothing was torn from him His injuries in-juries will keep him disabled f some time John Wheelsman workman was severely burned about the head and shoulders and knocked senseless by a flying brick Ed Ayres A iley Jones M Haney J Mitchell and other workmen were all more or less burned about the head and shoulders The cause of the explosion was the generation of gas inside the mold which was prepared to cast a 1 000 pound piece and when the hot metal was poured in at the mouth the mold exploded sending about one thousand pounds of molten metal in a perfect shower among the men |
