Show To Tip, Or. . .? Robert Edwards, writing in the Christian Science Monitor, Moni-tor, tells it like it is (or should be) when he says that tipping in America isn't mandatory, or even justified, when service ser-vice is poor. EDWARDS says tips for restaurant service should range from ten to fifteen percentdepending per-centdepending on how good the service is. He suggests fifteen percent for taxi drivers. But he stresses that Americans aren't required to tip, by convention, custom or peer pressure. And, if a waiter or waitress treats you slovenly, he or she doesn't deserve a tip and shouldn't be given one. Further, don't be intimidated by a loud-mouth waiter or waitress. State your case to the management, calmly, if necessary. |
