THE PURPOSE of Girls' State and Boys' State is to teach qualified young people of the responsibilities and of the judicial aspects of counties, coun-ties, cities, and state government. govern-ment. After the cities, counties and states have been designated desig-nated the youth then commence com-mence in such activities as electing senators, representatives, representa-tives, delegates, chairmen, judges, attorneys, etc. THEY LEARN how each government is run with various activities" such as conventions, lectures, elections, rallies, mock trials and even an opportunity oppor-tunity to have a mock legislature legisla-ture with Senator Barlow running run-ning it. The Boys' Staters were presented pre-sented with three major issues to act upon. After rigorous controversy the majority decided de-cided not to take the sales tax off of food, but passed the sub-sidation sub-sidation of gasohol, and also passed the teen drug and alcohol alco-hol intervention and prevention preven-tion act. Senator Barlow will take the two acts that passed back to the State Legislature to be presented there.
