" ) rl i LiVU ' LEO MONKS County Sheriff's Department, announced that he will file as a candidate for Davis County Sheriff and will retire from the department on May 1, 1978, in order to devote full time to the campaign. HE WILL file as a candidate can-didate for sheriff on the Republican ticket in the general election. Mr. Monks commenced his law enforcement career 26 years ago with Bountiful. THE LAST 15 years he has been with the Davis County Sheriff's Office and has served as sergeant in charge of each division in that department. Most recently he has been in charge of the detective de-tective division. Sgt. Monks is a native of Duchesne County and moved to Bountiful 26 years ago. He was educated in Uintah Basin and Colorado schools. HE IS married to the former Ethel Rae Zufelt. The couple has one daughter and resides at 275 West 1700 South, Bountiful. In addition to his wide and varied practical experience in law enforcement he has completed a wide variety of courses in law enforcement and administration at Weber State College, Westminster College and the University of Utah. HIS training includes criminal law, psychology, patrol pa-trol tactics and police administration. ad-ministration. He has completed two courses of study in latent finger-printing; two courses In homicide investigation; two courses in narcotics investigation; and completed courses in command supervision super-vision and executive training. ADDITIONALLY, his training train-ing includes bomb and explosives disposal techniques tech-niques under U.S. Army supervision.
