Show Annual Birthday Fete Of Local Alice Louise Reynolds Club Held The annual birthday celebration celebra-tion of the Alice Louise Reynolds club was held in the form of a formal dinner at the Standard cafe, Saturday night, March 2S. Twenty members of the Hurricane Hurri-cane chapter joined' with the local club. Guests of the evening were Miss Louise Reynolds and Miss Violate Elliot of Provo and Miss Clara Wodohouse. President Mrs. Marion Snow welcomed the iguests and club members and introduced Mrs. Katherine Larson who presided as toastmaster for the evening. As a token of the appreciation and respect that the Washington county clubs hold for Miss Ren-olds, Ren-olds, Mrs. Helen Reichmann, in behalf of the clubs, presented her with a plant and Mrs. Wanda j Esplin Snow a book, "Anthology of World Literature" which is I" be given to the public library as the first of a series of books to be known as the "Alice Louise Reynolds Book Shelf." Miss Reynolds Rey-nolds responded by thanking the club members for their kindness and sincerity in the presentation and continued by giving a short autobiography and spending spme time relating experiences of her travels abroad. She mentioned 'particularly the Passion Play at Oberamergan, the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, the Music Festivals and Grand Opera in Vienna and the London Premier of George Bernard Shaw's "St. Joan." She also mentioned that her first summer school teaching experience occured in St. George, forty years ago, while in company with George H. Brim-hall Brim-hall and other promient educators. She concluded by urging the club members to continue their praiseworthy praise-worthy efforts in their studies in the field 'of literature. Musical numbers of the evening even-ing included a vocal trio composed com-posed of Mrs. Alice Cannon, Mrs. Marian Snow, and Mrs. Ruth Hafen; a violin solo by Mrs. Vera Christian; and vocal solos by Mrs. Mona Spendlove and Mrs. Alma Clark of the Hurricane club. A toast was given to the Hurricane chapter by Mrs. Gertrude Gert-rude McArthur and to the St. George chapter by Mrs. Mary Miles Kleinman. |
