GEORGE PENNEY STORE first opened Its doors just 13 years ago, it was welcomed far and wide, for many had heard of Penney's from friends and relatives in other sections of the state ... for nearly half of the pioneer Penney stores, established in the early 1900's, were located in the State of Utah. tSR. PENNEY RESOLVED, when he opened the St George store, that it should be a real home to those sturdy American families who were building for the future. His first objective was to bring to them the necessities, and some of the simpler luxuries of life, at honest, rock-bottom prices. Expensive services such as delivery, charge accounts, instalment buying, were not Included In-cluded in his plan. Value nothing but real merchandise value was to be the foundation stone of his business. TON THE FIRST STORE STARTED in Kemmerer, Wyo., in 1902 those were the principles upon which it was built. They are the principles upon which all Penney stores are operated today. We have not changed, for our customers continue to depend upon Penney's to keep living costs down. ENNEY STORES HAVE HAD, from the very beginning, a direct appeal ap-peal to thrifty homemakers everywhere. There has always been an honest simplicity about them that gives assurance of fair treatment for all who enter, and thrift and savings have been guiding principles from the very beginning. OBJECTIVE TODAY, as it was in 1902, is to serve the average I American family with the merchandise it needs and at the lowest low-est possible price to operate friendly, economical stores for those people who live simply but well to help maintain the American standard and way of life. And that objective is more important now, in War Time, than ever before. vR. PENNEY IS RE-VISITING ST. GEORGE now on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the founding of this business. His visit is a great event for us and we have tried to make it so for you, too. We are featuring typical Penney values, the same kind on which the Penney Company was founded and on which it has grown.
